Vapes and E-cigarettes

Here are some ways to dispose of vapes and e-cigarettes:

  • Take back schemes
Many vape retailers have take-back schemes for vapes.

  • Supermarket collection points
Some supermarkets, such as Tesco, Sainsburys, Asda, and the Co-op, have collection points for vapes.

  • Electrical or battery recycling point
Vapes and their batteries can be recycled at a dedicated electrical or battery recycling point.

  • Kerbside recycling collection
If your district council offers a kerbside collection service for small electrical items and batteries, you can dispose of vapes through this service. Note that our local council does not offer this.

Here are some tips for safely disposing of vapes:

  • Make sure the device is empty of e-liquid before disposal.

  • Do not put vapes in your general waste collection bin.

  • If possible, remove the battery and take it to recycling.

  • Dismantle the vape and separate its parts for recycling.

  • Wash out the pod, tank, or cartridge with water to remove excess e-liquid residue.

  • Check the packaging and bottom of the cartridge or pod for a recycling symbol and number.
